Bed Bugs Without Food
Bed bugs can live a surprisingly long time without eating.
Bed bugs without food. Bedbugs can live without food for a very long time but when they do feed theyll eat more than once. Scientists debate this point but evidence suggests that at normal room temperature about 23 degrees Celsius bedbugs can only survive two to three months without a blood meal. These include the age of the bug if it is resistant to any pesticides and the temperature of its environment.
Bedbugs take around five to 10 minutes to feed. The range is quite big because their survival is dependent on the temperature and humidity of where they live. There are a multitude of factors that contribute to.
Bed bugs which have colony closer to the bed dont have to travel too far for food and thus their energy is not consumed a lot and survive more without food as compared to the bed bugs that have to travel too far for the food source. The nymphs of stage 3 and 5 are the ones that have more resistance this is because these nymphs could survive 116 to 142 days without food this means that the nymphs of stage 3 and 5 are more resistant than adult bed bugs. Females need first blood meal to lay eggs.
Research has shown that a full-grown bed bug can live up to 400 days without feeding. The average survival time without food however is roughly five months. Since their mouths are not designed to eat anything else this long durations without feeding seems hard to believe but its true.
Adult bed bugs both females and males can only survive between 73 and 92 days without food. The reason behind that is because bed bugs create a colony where they can find enough food like closer to bed or any other furniture. Since their habitat is near their food only they dont have to search for food and thus travel less.
Adult bed bugs can live 14 months without feeding. Neither are they like dust mites and other parasites they dont consume. The best way to ensure that all the bugs in your house die is to stop them from spreading.
